The efficacy, composition, and standards of glass adhesive
2026.09.18
The core function of glass glue is to seal and waterproof, bond and fix, and fill and decorate joints. At the same time, there are clear national and industry standards in China that regulate and constrain its performance.
Core efficacy and function
Waterproof sealing: used for bathroom sinks, toilet seats, shower room corners, etc., to block water flow and prevent moisture from corroding the substrate.
Adhesive fixation: It can bond various substrates such as glass, ceramics, metal, wood, etc., to achieve sealed fixation of mirrors on walls, door and window frames, and walls.
Joint filling decoration: Fill the gaps in decorative nodes such as skirting boards, door frames, and integrated ceilings to beautify the finishing and enhance overall aesthetics.
Elastic adaptation: After curing, it has elasticity and can adapt to small deformations of the material, avoiding cracks caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
Special function: Anti mold glass adhesive can inhibit mold growth in humid environments, and weather resistant adhesive can resist outdoor UV rays and rainwater erosion, maintaining stable performance for a long time.
Current core standards
Basic General Standards
GB/T 27573-2011 "Silicone Structural Sealants for Buildings": The core implementation standard for glass adhesives, which specifies the testing methods and judgment rules for mold resistance levels, is the core quality basis for home decoration glass adhesives.
JC/T 885 "Building sealants": an industry standard that provides detailed requirements for the basic properties of sealants, such as tensile bonding, peel strength, and weather resistance.
Anti mold grade standard (GB/T 27573)
|Anti mold grade | Judgment criteria | Applicable scenarios|
|Level 0 (highest) | Mold growth area ≤ 0% after 28 days of testing, no mold growth at all | Must be selected in damp areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, balconies, etc|
|Level 1 | Mold growth area ≤ 10% after 28 days of testing, mild mold resistance | Suitable for dry areas such as living room skirting boards|
|Level 2 | After 28 days of testing, the mold growth area is ≤ 30%, and there is basically no anti mold ability | Not recommended for home use|
Other performance requirements
The national standard requires qualified glass adhesives to meet the following requirements: high bonding strength, good sealing performance, strong UV stability, high and low temperature resistance (conventional products have a temperature range of -50 ℃~+150 ℃), curing speed standards, and clear restrictions on environmental indicators such as VOC and heavy metals.
